Hottie of the Week: Bradley James

I admit here and now that season 2 of Merlin hasn't wowed me the way the first season did, but the eye candy remains solid. I can get my fix of geeky cute with Colin, and Bradley is an excellent non-traditional pretty boy.

Why non-traditional? Slightly crooked teeth, acne scars visible even with pancake make-up... but there's really no denying that he's pretty. And don't take those as complaints. I LIKE a guy who has something that makes him unique. My primary complaint is just that I keep seeing pictures of him looking all sexy shirtless and boxing, but apparently the movie the shots are from hasn't ever been released. WTH, world?

As a shameless plug, I do have a vector I did of Bradley as Arthur for sale in my Power Ups shop for those of you out there who share my fannish love :D

Hottie of the Week: Jonathan Brandis

Now we come to one of my earlier crushes. At one point when I was thirteen or so, pictures of Jonathan Brandis covered literally almost every available inch of space in my room. I knew his favorite color, had seen all his movies, and even avidly sat through seaQuest. Yes, even after it got lame. I wrote a fan letter and got a real signed picture in return - a picture that I'm still thrilled to have.

As Jonathan grew up, he faded from the teen heartthrob limelight. He also became an immensely better actor and even began dabbling in directing. I honestly believe that he would have continued to be as talented and gorgeous as always.

Unfortunately for me and a lot of other fans who were still in love and still watching, Jonathan Brandis committed suicide on November 12, 2003. I know, I know, this column is supposed to be fun, but not all crushes end well. Silly as it may be, I will always be grateful for how much he let his fans in and how warm he always was to them even when he was hurting so much himself.

Figured I'd share this slideshow made by Streetnoodles on Etsy of some of the stuff from my Etsy shop. Nifty!

Hottie of the Week: Neil Patrick Harris

In honor of his appearance on Glee this upcoming week (SQUEEEEE!), Neil Patrick Harris is my hottie of the week. It's really hard not to love this guy. I admit that as much as I adored Doogie Howser, I never had a crush on him back then.

What turned it around for me (since I have only caught How I Met Your Mother irregularly - I KNOW, I suck) was Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Joss Whedon is a god to me, so obviously I intended to watch. But Neil was so awesome that I was actually distracted from worshiping Joss's brilliance. He even distracted me from Nathan Fillion's incredible hotness.

And now my favorite guy I'd totally be sleeping with if I happened to be another hot guy is going to be on one of my current favorite shows: Glee! Hosting awards shows is great, and I admit to watching all the Harold & Kumar movies mostly for his cameos... but all this pales when compared to the epic win that will be NPH on Glee. I can't wait!

Yay!

Silly to be excited since I still haven't seen season 2 (come the hell out on DVD already!), but one of my faves from the new 90210 will be guest starring on True Blood's second season as a gay prostitute. I'm so in. Go Navid! lol And, no, I'm not a perv - he's my age. Actually, he's older than one of the actors playing a teacher. Mr. Ryan's younger than me AND his student. But he's hot too, so it's all good. And, yes, I am just tacky enough to love the resurrected show. I watched the original up until the last couple seasons, so how could I not give it a shot? I really haven't been disappointed. It's nothing brilliant, but it's solidly fun brain candy.

My Mommy

My mom is awesome. Yeah, everybody says that. Everybody's probably right in their own way and for their own reasons. For me? It's because my mom has done so much for me for so long. She raised me as more or less a single parent, then did the same with my sister. When I was little, she went back to college, double majored, and kicked some serious academic ass. I like to think that I'm smart enough to be a worthy successor on that front. She became a teacher who is every bit as stellar as she was a student.

So here's to a mom who has worked hard, taught me a lot, and generally been awesomely fun to hang out with. I know a lot of people don't have parents they can talk to the way I can talk to my mom. They aren't able to trade cds to learn new music and get movie recommendations they can trust and drool over the same actors. I'm a very lucky daughter with a very rockin' mom. Happy Mother's Day, mommy!

Hottie of the Week: Christopher Eccleston

I decided to go a bit further off the beaten path this week. You see, I'm not just attracted to pretty. I like a guy who is also fascinating. So my crushes tend to be pretty off the wall at times. First? Pardon me while I'm totally distracted by Google images having a new layout. Whoah!

I first saw Chris in Shallow Grave, a movie which I saw thanks to my overwhelming crush on Ewan McGregor. He was suitably beautiful in it, and I found Chris utterly disturbing - which was totally appropriate to the movie, just for the record. Years later, I ended up falling for him. It's all Doctor Who's fault. Don't pretend like you wouldn't have run away with him because you WOULD have.

Then came Heroes. I've spent pretty much every episode since he left in season one just waiting for Claude to come back. I think a large reason I gave up on the show (aside from it starting to suck) was the simple fact that I realized he wasn't coming back. Because, let's face it, Chris ain't gonna be on something that sucks that hard. And no commentary on GI Joe here. We're all just gonna move along and pretend that didn't happen. Right now? I'm sitting here just WAITING for an announcement about a Three Doctors kinda special so I can get me a brand new Nine fix. I choose to believe that it will happen any. minute. now.
