The Truth is STILL Out There

After thirteen years off the air, it's back. The X-Files is back. It's always held a special place in my heart. The first thing I ever search for on the internet was X-Files related top ten lists. I went to two X-Files conventions - my first cons ever. It's a big deal for me. It's a big thing. Part of me is afraid about the future of the show and whether it will be as awesome as it deserves to be, but most of me? Most of me is fangirling so hard I'm pretty sure I sprained something.

Trust no one.

Series Review: Political Animals

I'll start this review by admitting fully that I only found this series because I searched "Sebastian Stan" on Netflix, and this was the thing I hadn't seen. So my motives going in were as shallow as they come.

Thank god they reward shallowness in my world.
'The pleasant surprise for this miniseries that reads like it should be an introduction to a full series (and sadly isn't) is that it's really, really good. Yes, okay, tune in to watch Sebastian Stan being beautiful and making out with boys. I did. But Sigourney Weaver is ridiculously charismatic, and particularly if you're someone who enjoys things like The West Wing, you're going to get sucked in fast.

I told you - I'm shallow.

The pace is quick, the dialogue is sharp, the actors are all fantastic. Since there are only six episodes to get through, it's a quick watch and well worth the time. Now streaming on Netflix.

Glee: On My Way

This is going to be a wall of spoilers, so if you haven't seen the "winter finale" (fuck you, Fox) of Glee and don't want it spoiled, now is an AWESOME time to stop reading. Also? This will likely be scattered and messy. I'm throwin' it all in here and seeing what sticks.

  •  Quinn is fine. People, Dianna's not leaving the show; ergo, Quinn will be okay. Possibly mangled or something, but we all know she'll be fine. RELAX.
  • No one's talking about the baby daddy drama. Seriously, whose spawn is Sue having? I'm going with Puck because I can.
  • Hey, Joe Hart, I see you in the background bein' all hot. You go right ahead with that.
  • Blaine has something going on lately. The outburst of anger in the choir room, telling Kurt it wasn't the stuff with Sebastian but then not telling Kurt what it is... it's odd. It's not like him. Something's up. Given that his big brother's showing up in the next new ep we get, maybe something with his parents?
  • Speaking of Kurt and Blaine, when the hell are they gonna talk about what happens when graduation comes around? And Mike and Tina? They're power couples too, damn it all, and I want to know!
  • I'm not 100% convinced that Sebastian really has a soul, but it is possible. Still waiting for time to tell on that one, but Grant Gust did a great job. Whether it was bullshit or not, he genuinely seemed to feel bad.
  • Finn & Rachel getting married: I actually do like them together, but it's a terrible idea. AWFUL. At least at this point in their lives. So I'm genuinely hoping that it won't happen.
  • Faberry is cannon. There's a missing scene with Rachel and Quinn at the bridal shop (it was in the previews), but... I honestly think it's cannon, at least in a one-sided sense. I think Quinn has a thing for Rachel. Just sayin'. I think Rachel might even have a thing for Quinn, actually, but... I'm not even a femmeslash kinda girl, and I see it.
  • I recognized, like, one song in this episode. Am I out of touch, or were more of these just really obscure? I really liked "Cough Syrup," though.
  • And, okay, the hard part of the ep: Dave. It was beautifully done. I had inklings after last week's ep and him more or less getting outed with that guy at his school, and my suspicions were confirmed... though thankfully not in the final sense that I'd been afraid of. Because y'know what? I've gotten attached to Dave. I have. He's interesting. Seeing what he's going through is interesting. Seeing him and Kurt figuring out how to be friends is interesting. I want to continue with it. Plus Max Adler seems like a nice dude, and I'd hate for him to be out of the job.
  • My husband thinks Dave's parents will send him off to de-gaying-camp, but I think his dad's gonna be on his side. I hope. And so I'm thinking maybe his parents will just end up splitting up. So the big question: will Dave transfer back to McKinley, or will he transfer to Dalton?
  • I love Rachel's dads SO MUCH. Jeff Goldblum's always been a favorite, and he's just absolutely perfect. So great! Enough to overshadow Burt somewhat, and we all know he's my fake dad. Someday Burt Hummel's going to adopt me. I'm just sayin'.
  • Another under-the-radar heart tugger: Santana's hope for the future. That killed me.

Tunes Tuesday: Pumped up Kicks by Foster the People

Since this is one of the first things I thought about when I heard the song, it's nice to see that someone did it :) I present to you: Tate Langdon being psycho. If you're a horror fan, check out American Horror Story in reruns or when it comes out on DVD. You'll dig it.

Gleeking Out

http://sporkyforky.tumblr.com/post/6716106013/fanart-for-the-sidhe-a-wonderful-klaine-fic-by
This post is for all the fic freaks out there. If you don't like fan fiction, particular alternate universe fan fiction with guy on guy action in it? You won't like this. And that's just fine.

It's been literally years since I read an epic fic, but I kept seeing things on DeviantArt about an alternate universe Glee fic (Kurt/Blaine specifically) that everyone was apparently in love with. I resisted for a long time, but I finally dove in and have managed to devour the whole thing in a week. It would have been faster, but.. well... I kinda didn't want it to be over. So if you enjoy elves and magic and hot mansex and angst and Glee? You need to go and read The Sidhe right now. I'll wait. Fair warning: I cried like a bitch with a skinned knee and shit at the end. You probably will too.

Dead Like Me

When Wes and I first started watching this series, I was largely indifferent to it. The strongest thing it had going for it was Mandy Patinkin (did I screw that up?). You don't get much cooler than him, so that's a pretty strong hook. The premise was interesting, the characters were decent... I just wasn't engrossed.

Somewhere toward the end of season one, though, I started to get sucked in. We tackled season two like it was going out of style and just finished the last episode earlier today. So good. We've already got the movie all ready to go on the Netflix (I will not turn this into a rant about Netflix, I will not turn this into a rant about Netflix...) queue. I love the characters, I love the idea, and you should all be watching. So get on it!

I Like Wesley Crusher.

Wesley Crusher Tattoo, originally uploaded by angie k.

No, that isn't my arm. But it's nice to see there are other people who agree with me. You see, I'm part of that slim, exclusive group (okay, we just say that to make ourselves sound cool... or would if we talked to one another) of Trekkers who like Wesley Crusher.

Star Trek The Next Generation premiered when I was five years old in 1987. I'd been watching the original series since, well, birth, so Star Trek was nothing new to me. I was most pumped that the guy from Reading Rainbow was on it because DAMN, you don't get much cooler than LeVar Burton (who is still a BAMF).

Something that proved to be a nice surprise for me was Wil Wheaton. Yes, Wesley Crusher himself in all his terribly sweatered glory. See, to a five year old, Wesley wasn't some kid who got in the way and annoyed people. To a five year old, he was older, more sophisticated (he was what, twelve? That's AWESOME, obviously) and he got to hang out on the Enterprise. He was a kid. On STAR TREK. Plus, I gotta say, I thought he was pretty darn cute. Not as cute as Riker, but... hell, who is?

So while everyone else wished for Wesley's death, I, young and blissfully unaware that the internet even existed (we didn't get a computer until FAR later in my development) just thought Wesley Crusher was cool. And I still kinda think that. Despite his annoying moments and Will learning a lot of acting ropes right in front of us, I think it was GOOD to show a family dynamic on Star Trek. Mary Sue-ish at times or not, I stand by the fact that Wesley was a positive addition to the cast.

And in case you didn't know? Will not only got better and better at acting, he has also become a geek demi-god. If you aren't reading his blog, you're missing out. It's touching, funny, geeky... everything you wish this blog was. So go ahead and check it out. I won't blame you if it takes awhile to work your way back here. And hit him up on Twitter while you're at it because you won't be disappointed.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I'd also like to take a moment to say that Casey Abrams made my night on Idol last night. No, not because it was his best performance ever but because he got up there and sang a Nirvana song and he didn't try to pretty it up. It wasn't pop. It was growly and dirty and awesome. YAY!

My Fave of Miami Ink-er

Chris Garver !, originally uploaded by volveralobestial*.*♥ .-.
I forgot about my hottie post today, so instead I'm doing a quick post related to the fact that I've been going through old eps of Miami Ink on Netflix. My fave? Easily Chris Garver. He's awesomely zen, makes purdy tattoos, and he's not bad looking either.

So who's *your* favorite?

Merlin Season 3 Premiere

Serious Merlin, originally uploaded by wildemoon.
There be spoilers below, so read at your own risk if you haven't seen it and you mind ;)

We finally got it here in the States this past Friday on SyFy (I may hate what they've become, but they still give me what I want sometimes). In any case, I am thrilled. Yes, okay, Merlin's still dumber than he should be sometimes (really? no one suspected Morgana AT ALL?!), but I'm so happy to see this season starting with a bang.

We aren't slowly building up to something maybe happening - shit's going down right now. Morgana and Morgeuse are already maneuvering to take over Camelot, Merlin got grabbed by the dragon (poor kid... got a pity save), and I think that awesomeness will abound. I was worried since season two got a little too childish for me at times (there were multiple poop jokes in season 2 episode 1 alone - ick), but it seems they've figured things out now. Can't wait for next week!

Best Miniseries You've Never Seen: I, Claudius

Hopefully some of you HAVE seen this amazing series, but for those who haven't, I, Claudius is a brilliant miniseries produced by the BBC in the 70s. The star is the absolutely brilliant Derek Jacobi. Given how many geeks follow here, some of you have probably seen him in Doctor Who in his all too brief stint as The Master.

This thing is drama from start to finish. Without being particularly over the top, it manages to be sick and twisted and soap operatic but with brilliant acting. Rocky Horror fans should watch for Patricia Quinn looking lovely and being downright slimy.

If you're not somebody who watches much in the way of TV or movies, I'd suggest reading the books that the series is based on, I, Claudius and Claudius the God by Robert Graves. It's historical fiction without being the least bit dry or stodgy. Totally worth a read!

Best You've Never Watched: Lexx

Welcome to the most recent edition of "best you've never". In this case, the best TV series you've never watched. I think that probably holds true for most of you, in any case. Lexx ran a long while back on the Sci-Fi channel before they gave up altogether, started sitting on the rights to the series they own, and put extreme fighting on instead of science fiction.

Not that I'm bitter. Ahem.

ANYWAY, Lexx is a truly bizarre little gem of a series. It is screwed up, campy, and definitely a place where you should leave your expectations at the door. If you dig smutty (yet often without any actual sex), inappropriate, odd, and have a thing for sexy dead guys or hot chicks who are part lizard, you've found your new favorite show. If not? Most people who would be following me probably have the right sense of humor to enjoy the heck out of this show. I've been rewatching it lately (the full run is available on Hulu.com for now!) and find it even better. Why did I link the third series here instead of the first? Because it's my favorite, that's why, and this is my blog!

The first "series" of Lexx is actually a collection of movies. They feature amazing guest stars like Barry Bostwick, Tim Curry and Malcolm McDowell. Yep, it's THAT awesome. For me it really gets good once the show switched over to the one hour format and they upgraded Xevs. Xenia Seeberg may look like a porn star - and act like one a lot of the time - but I developed a really strong affection for her during the run of the series. Of course my heart belongs to Kai (played by Michael McManus, who doesn't work often enough for my taste). And I love Stan (played wonderfully by Brian Downey)... just, y'know, not THAT way.

So join me in the Dark Zone and enjoy this bizarre freak show of a scifi series. You won't be sorry!

Hottie of the Week: Julian McMahon

It's no secret to most of you that I'm a huge Nip/Tuck fan. Even with the show gone, my love lives on. I absolutely adore every bit of it. Yeah, even the parts that ended stupidly like the Carver storyline. A big part of that is the fact that I ended up falling in love with the biggest asshole of them all: Christian Troy.

I'll start by saying that it's not because I'm into guys who are jerks. Quite the opposite. But Julian's so darn HOT. I will say after seeing some of his Charmed eps, I prefer him a bit more natural than he got to be as Christian, but that's a small quibble.

Let's face it, this is a simple one: hot guy, hot accent (mmmmm Aussie), great bod. There's really not a lot of downsides, so enjoy the eye candy, and if you haven't seen Nip/Tuck yet, get on it!
