Hottie of the Week: Peter MacNichol

Admittedly, today's choice is one of my unorthodox ones... which are often my favorites. This guy right here? I'm a little in love. See, I just started binge-watching Ally McBeal and am now up to season 3. While I really do enjoy the show overall, John Cage makes the whole thing for me. Seriously. He's fantastic. So here we have it... Plus to the geeks out there, you've all seen Dragonslayer, right? Right? And Dracula: Dead and Loving It?

Happy Birthday, Stone!

This is a cheap, lame, but pretty gift for my oldest and dearest friend Ashley. She's out of her mind. She's bizarre. She's one of my favorite people in the entire world for a reason. I've known her since I was four, and I'm OLD, so you know it's been awhile. So here's some pretty for her - and all of you.

Evil Dead 2013

Let me apologize for taking so long to get this up. Hubby and I actually got the chance to see an early screening of the Evil Dead remake last Thursday. As excited as I always get when seeing a new movie (especially a new horror movie), I had reservations. I love the original Evil Dead trilogy. It's campy and fun and silly. It's got Bruce Campbell. When I originally heard they were doing a remake, I was horrified. When Bruce nicely asked fans to give it a shot before judging... oh, come on, like YOU could say no to Bruce Campbell.

I'm glad he paved the way for an attitude change on my part because I have to say I was pleased. While I find some of the movie's intro to be a bit slow (some of the acting is, as in the original, a bit iffy, so being asked to do nothing but watch it...), but once things heat up, they stay that way. The horror unfolds quickly, and there are plenty of squeamish "I can't look!" moments, which is saying something since I hardly had to glance away during the Saw franchise.

What I found most heartening is that the movie's sense of playful, dark humor is fully intact. While this is definitely not a slapstick romp like much of the original trilogy, there are definitely moments that will make you chuckle. Old school fans will appreciate all the nods to the original. There's respect here. Despite being a remake, this isn't a movie asking you to forget the past and pretend it never happened - and I'm cool with that. If you're a horror fan who enjoys a bit of darkness, blood, and offbeat humor, do yourself a favor and check this out when it hits theaters in April.

Hottie of the Week: Chace Crawford

In honor of the fact that I'm one episode away from finishing Gossip Girl, have some Chace Crawford. You're welcome.

Hottie of the Week: Rob Zombie

Maybe I'm just psyched about Lords of Salem coming out, but now seemed like the PERFECT time to get some Rob love going in the world. Whooo! I like him as a musician, but I LOVE him as director.

Hottie of the Week: Jensen Ackles

Let me feed my Supernatural obsession - and start one for you if you don't have it yet. I'll confess that Supernatural is NOT the first I saw of Jensen. I read a lot of teen magazines in my youth, and he was on Days of Our Lives at the time (which, at the time, yes, I watched). I didn't think he was all that cute, honestly. He was okay, but I had a crush on Jack (the DOOL char, that is). Anyway, he made slightly more of an impression on Smallville, but my Lex crush was too distracting for me to notice other people too much. So it's been my Supernatural binge that finally got me on the bandwagon, and I'm happy to be here! Jensen is definitely one of those guys who gets hotter with age. Yum.

Packing for Camp NaNoWriMo

I've committed. I'm doing Camp NaNoWriMo in April. What's that? It's much like NaNoWriMo, which is an event in October that encourages folks to write 50,000 - basically, to put together a novel in a month. I actually succeeded this past November and am still working out the bugs to hopefully start shopping that one around by next year. Meanwhile, you can find my camp profile here. Let me know if you're participating - I'll request that we share a cabin. The real upside of the Camp setting? You can choose your word count and even your format. This would be the place to put together your script or your collection of short stories or poems or... sky's the limit!

I went pure fantasy for my last NaNo novel, so this time around, I'm going fantasy romance with a liberal touch of the supernatural. That stems, of course, from watching a LOT of Supernatural lately. I'm proud to say I have at least the first half of the novel outlined already, though some of it is still very loose. I hurt myself in November by half-assing my outline, so I'm trying to do better this time. Even if I deviate from my outlines, they help me stay on track. What about you? How do you keep yourself from losing steam?

Hottie of the Week: Steve R. McQueen

Here be spoilers for this season's Vampire Diaries. Avert your eyes if you mind.

So last week's Vampire Diaries has been a slow burn emotional trauma thing. I find myself getting broken up over it at the strangest times. I honestly haven't been hit this hard by a character death since Doyle on Angel or since Nine's regeneration on Doctor Who. This one HURTS. So I'm soothing myself with pictures of the lovely actor who plays (I refuse to go past tense - shush) Jeremy Gilbert. Who will be back because I'm guessing the show runners don't want me coming after them and beating their asses.

Consider the puppy pictures therapy. I know I did. Also, to my friend Chad: THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT :P
