Hottie of the Week: Zachary Levi

I don't have a lot of time this week, so I'll spare you my babble and focus on the pretty. This week's dose of loveliness is Zachary Levi, best known as Chuck Bartowski on NBC's goofy spy/geek drama/comedy show Chuck.

If you are a dork and you aren't watching yet, you are TOTALLY missing out and should start right now for the eye candy if nothing else. Enjoy!

Best You've Never Watched: Lexx

Welcome to the most recent edition of "best you've never". In this case, the best TV series you've never watched. I think that probably holds true for most of you, in any case. Lexx ran a long while back on the Sci-Fi channel before they gave up altogether, started sitting on the rights to the series they own, and put extreme fighting on instead of science fiction.

Not that I'm bitter. Ahem.

ANYWAY, Lexx is a truly bizarre little gem of a series. It is screwed up, campy, and definitely a place where you should leave your expectations at the door. If you dig smutty (yet often without any actual sex), inappropriate, odd, and have a thing for sexy dead guys or hot chicks who are part lizard, you've found your new favorite show. If not? Most people who would be following me probably have the right sense of humor to enjoy the heck out of this show. I've been rewatching it lately (the full run is available on Hulu.com for now!) and find it even better. Why did I link the third series here instead of the first? Because it's my favorite, that's why, and this is my blog!

The first "series" of Lexx is actually a collection of movies. They feature amazing guest stars like Barry Bostwick, Tim Curry and Malcolm McDowell. Yep, it's THAT awesome. For me it really gets good once the show switched over to the one hour format and they upgraded Xevs. Xenia Seeberg may look like a porn star - and act like one a lot of the time - but I developed a really strong affection for her during the run of the series. Of course my heart belongs to Kai (played by Michael McManus, who doesn't work often enough for my taste). And I love Stan (played wonderfully by Brian Downey)... just, y'know, not THAT way.

So join me in the Dark Zone and enjoy this bizarre freak show of a scifi series. You won't be sorry!

Metaphor for Life

I'm not sure HOW it's a metaphor for life, but this morning I spent my drive sandwiched between two silver sports cars. The one in front of me was just barely going the speed limit. The one behind me was nipping at my heels and obviously hungry for speed the entire way along our long country road.

Hottie of the Week: Hugh Laurie

This one really needs no explanation. Any man that's this talented, attractive, silly... come ON. I may be a sucker for a British accent and a pair of pretty blue eyes, but I still say Hugh's a pretty obvious choice.

If you aren't a fan from the most familiar source, House, then maybe you've fallen in love with Hugh through his comedy work back in Britain. Hugh and Stephen Fry (who I also love dearly) made some beautifully weird music together.

Speaking of music, Hugh's also a talented musician. I'm going to go swoon now, so you just enjoy the pretty pictures :D

Vietnamese Horror Goodness

I think it's pretty firmly established that I dig Asian horror. It's got a great, moody feel, and they tend to spend more time on characters than their American counterparts. It's nice CARING when someone gets murdered by the crazy ghost or killer or whatnot.

The Art of the Devil series is the first Vietnamese horror that I've seen, and it was interesting. I'd describe it as a marriage of traditional Asian horror flicks and Saw - so, obviously, I was sold right away. I watched the trilogy out of order. I saw the second (and strongest) film first, then watched the first (which is really unrelated to the other two except that it deals with Cambodian black magic as the evil too), and then the third (which, confusingly, is labeled as 2 in the title sequence and is actually a prequel to the second film).

The second film is probably the most interesting in terms of story, twists, and plot. That isn't to say that it doesn't have its odd moments, but overall it's a strong horror flick that's creepy and intriguing. The third film is the most gory and violent (*I* even had to look away sometimes), and while it's very interesting, I ended up finding myself confused as to how the timeline of it works with the second film. I may have to give them another viewing to piece it together. The first movie is fine. It's interesting enough, has some good creepy moments, but it captivated me a bit less than the other two.

In the market for some unusual Asian horror? This is a great place to start - though I'll caution again that it has a heavy dose of Saw or Hostel-style gore along with the creepy black magic, so if that isn't your thing, buyer beware.

Hottie of the Week: Stephen "Twitch" Boss

Because I'm in a So You Think You Can Dance happiness haze (I'm writing this prior to knowing the outcome of the finale, but since I love all three finalists, I feel sure I'll be happy), I have to showcase my second favorite hottie from the show. Shhh, don't tell Mark I'm cheating on him!

I love a good case of funny, geeky hot, and Twitch fits the bill perfectly. The hot abs he's hiding under the hip hop gear don't hurt either. Lucky Kherington! : sigh :

I've never been able to dance worth anything, so seeing guys and girls who can really move impresses me to no end. If those people happen to be funny and quirky and seem like nice people off the dance floor on top of it... Come on, how can you not love that grin?

Also... yeah, it's a day early. No idea why, it's just that kind of week ;)

Stupid Human Tricks

So yesterday I cut a hunk out of my thumb with an exacto knife while making a calendar mock up. Yep, I'm THAT smart. Thankfully Health Services at the school got me patched up and bandaged quickly, and Wes has been taking care of it since I got home.

It's nothing major and it'll heal up, it's just one of those things where you don't realize how much you use your thumb until it's impaired. lol Wish me luck!

Hottie of the Week: Seth Green

You may have noticed by now that I'm a geek. As such, I like a guy who wears his dorkiness on his sleeve. Seth most definitely does that. Plus he's a redhead. I'm a sucker for a cute redhead. I have no idea what's up with the dog picture... but how could I not use it?

So here we have it: Oz himself. I'm a Buffy junky, and Oz will forever be one of my favorite characters on the show. Add to that his work on Robot Chicken, Family Guy, Austin Powers, and Stand by Me (oh, yeah, I went there) and you have an all around amazing amalgamation of geekdom.

Enjoy the view, and don't pretend you don't want a piece. Y'know you do.

O.M.G.

Today is a strange and wonderful day. You see that tiny little kid in the picture up there? No, not the geeky one with the braces, the little cute one. Yep, that's the one. That, everybody, is my baby sister. And she is a baby. Dangit, she IS!

But as of today, she is also 18 years old. I can hardly believe that I've known her for 18 years. It's hard to think of that since I remember so clearly driving to the hospital and waiting around for someone, ANYONE to let us in the room so I could finally meet my little sister. I remember learning how to take care of her and going through awesome times (crayon drawing sessions together, more recent trips to A-Kon) and some rougher times (papau and I used to have to all but sit on her to get her clothes on to get her ready for preschool).

So before I get too weepy and dorky about the whole thing, I just want to say that I am super, super proud of my little sister. Not just for living 18 years. I mean, lots of people do that. I'm proud of her for growing into a sweet, smart young woman who I am proud to have as a friend and even prouder to have as a sister.
