Hottie of the Week: Felicia Day

Probably my biggest girl crush ever: Felicia Day. Sorry, but if you're a geek chick and you say part of you doesn't want to be her... you're probably lying. Or so completely out of touch it's crazy. Because Felicia is, frankly, teh awesome.

This is a lady who writes, acts, directs, plays WoW and the violin. I don't even KNOW how many threats that is because, well, I'm too lazy to count them. But it's epic. Truly epic. Plus she created The Guild (AWESOME) and starred in Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along blog (ALSO AWESOME).

On a totally shallow note, she's also a redhead and super pretty. I've never had the honor of meeting the lovely Ms. Day, but I have a feeling she's probably about as rocking in person as she seems to be. So here's to cool geeky ladies who aren't scared to just be who they are and being a dork a mark of success. Can I get a woot woot? I thought so!

Figure 8

Alright, the number 8, not the figure. I was trying to be clever, okay! As of tomorrow, Wes and I have officially been together 8 years. AWESOME years. Epic years. By the end of this year, we'll be married, and I guess maybe we'll change our anniversary. I have no idea. Gets confusing after that long, doesn't it? So this is just a quick post to say that I'm really lucky to be with such an awesome guy who I have so much fun with.

Papau by WildeMoon

Papau by WildeMoon, originally uploaded by wildemoon.

A painting that I did of papau a few years ago. I gave it to him for Christmas, and it was always hanging on his wall after that. I did the painting from a photo I took of him at Thanksgiving.

Hottie of the Week: Duncan Sheik

Talent is sexy. There are few musicians I consider as talented as Duncan Sheik. I love the guy's music, simple as that. And you probably do too since most people have heard "Barely Breathing" on a movie or on the radio at some point.

Unfortunately not a lot of people have heard more. That's sad since Duncan's music is awesome. It is NOT coincidental that my favorite song of his is "Bite Your Tongue" and my domain is BiteYourTongue.net.

What a lot of people don't know about Duncan is that he wrote the music for the smash musical Spring Awakening. Yep, the one that got Lea Michelle her start. He won two Tonys for his work and the show won Best Musical. So if you haven't checked out Duncan's music before, doooo eeeeeeettttt!

My Papau

Today at about 7:30 in the morning, my papau passed away. Please expect this entry to be rambling because I don't know how else to write it. The truth is that I'm not absorbing it yet. I do in parts, fits and starts that hurt like hell. I know it's going to hurt more and more over the next few days. I've had some rough bouts of sobbing and missing him and being scared of what it's going to be like without him in it.

It was peaceful. He was in the hospital earlier this year, and he's been declining since. He was tired. He worked hard his whole life fighting for his family, his country, building a home that was always full of love and light. Some of my most amazing memories are at grandma and papau's house: papau taking me fishing, doing jewelry work with grandma, the big breakfasts the two of them would put together on Sunday mornings before church.

And I'll always have those. I'm scared of the idea of what life will be like without papau in it, but I will always, always be grateful for the things that he did do for me and for all of us.

This is the last photo I have with him. I took it when I was down to visit a week ago.

A sweet friend from my rpgs sent me this poem which she picked for her grandfather's funeral:

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered “Come to me”.

With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts
to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Hottie of the Week: Kevin Smith

No, not the director... though he'll be showing up here later. Yes, I do think he's a hottie. But this Kevin Smith was a gorgeous actor from New Zealand. Sadly, was being the operative word there. Kevin sadly died of injuries suffered on set in February 2002.

Kevin was best known for his work as Ares on Xena: Warrior Princes, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and Young Hercules. That's not a bad thing, either. He always brought a brilliant mix of humor, menace and outright hotness. Personally I think there's something a little wrong with any straight women or gay men who didn't have a crush on Ares. I'm just sayin'. LOOK at the man!

Perhaps even more noteworthy is the fact that he seemed like a genuinely good guy. He was a family man, he was sweet to his fans, and he seemed genuinely grateful for his success. You'll be missed, Kevin, but not forgotten!

Book Gadgets?

Anyone know any gadgets/widgets/whatever you can add to your blog sidebar that will let you track what books you've read or are currently reading? I think that would be a lot of fun, but searching Blogger's gadgets game up with nothing. Bonus points if it will link to the book on Amazon or something so that if someone else wants to read it, they can grab themselves a copy. heh

EDIT: Thanks to Laura, I now have a Shelfari widget. YAY!

Hottie of the Week: Matt Smith

I really had intended to stagger my weeks of Doctor Who-related drooling a bit, but I caved. I couldn't help it. I have fallen for a new Doctor, and I couldn't be happier.

Part of me knows I should be bothered by the emo hair. I should. But instead I find it adorable. Do I mind the itchy-looking tweedy jacket? Nope. Actually, I think thanks to Anthony Head on Buffy, I may have a fettish for them. Hmmm...

In any case, he's adorable from the flippy hair and right on down. Has anyone else noticed how tight Eleven's pants are? No, I don't mind that even a little.

And this week you're getting a bonus picture simply because I had trouble narrowing down my choices. You're WELCOME.
