Hottie of the Week: Robert Sean Leonard

I've decided that every week I'm going to post about a celebrity I have a crush on. Why? Because I can. Some of the choices will be obvious, some may be totally embarrassing... but we're all friends here, right? Right?!

Most people know RSL from the most obvious and prominent of his roles - James Wilson on House. And, honestly, I don't blame you if that's the first thing that comes to mind. I doubt I could love the show any more than I did. Well, unless they stopped letting Wilson date people so he could focus more fully on just having entertaining conversations with House... but other than that...

However, MY crush on him goes back even further. Nope, not Dead Poets Society, though I do love that film. Not Swing Kids either, though that too is a really well made movie that's 100% worth seeing. Oh, no. My crush started when I was watching tacky 80s movies late at night and saw My Best Friend is a Vampire. If you've never seen that movie, you're missing out on some deliciously cheeseball comedy - and an adorably, awkwardly young RSL to boot.

Tune in next week for my next utterly random pick. Yay!

The Butcher

This is another Asian horror flick - this time some torture porn out of Korea. I admit that I'm a pretty huge Saw fan, and I enjoyed the Hostel films too, so you know already that I have a fairly steady stomach when it comes to super gory horror flicks. And this one? I had to look away sometimes. This is a very short movie (it runs just over an hour), but it's a very intense hour. The pace drags sometimes, but when things start happening, they happen quickly. While this is definitely NOT a movie for everyone, folks who enjoy their horror extreme and don't get queasy easily will probably find it a very interesting entry to the genre.

Finally Excited Again

From the moment he appeared onscreen, I started falling in love with the Ninth Doctor. He was strange but fun, dark but passionate and hopeful. He was the perfect first Doctor for me, and I fell head over heels. I wanted to run off in the TARDIS and do things I would normally have found terrifying.

And then Nine was gone, and Ten took his place... and my interest waned. It was a combination of issues. Rose didn't mourn for Nine, and since she was the audience's emotional touchstone in the show, that hurt my feelings. I took it personally that she didn't miss him. Then came the fact that Ten was just plain too hyperactive sometimes. There was just something missing. Did I hate Ten? No. But I never loved him, and that was almost as bad.

Saturday a new era of hope began for me. Was the episode perfect? No. As with most first Doctor episodes (at least from what I can tell), the story was so-so because it was just a vehicle to introduce the Doctor to the companion and vice versa. And it worked. Eleven was charming - energetic but not annoying, odd and interesting. Amy was funny, strong, and seemed like a sharp cookie in her own right. And, as Wes pointed out, stunning. lol The episode promised a lot of fun to come, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Marebito

Now this is a weird Japanese horror flick. It's actually one of the more original and freaky horror flicks I've seen in awhile. It starts out Lovecraftian/sci fi and then veers into vampire territory then careens off into psychological thriller. The pace was slow at first, and it almost lost me, but I'm *really* glad that I stuck with it. Definitely worth the watch!

My Newest Obsession

If you haven't seen Merlin (which is now airing in the US on the SyFy channel) yet, you are missing out on my very favorite obsession of the moment. The show is fun and light with a hint of darkness, much like Xena or Hercules in their prime. Plus the eye candy is well and truly excellent whatever your preference. Mostly I'm just having tons of fun with this one and firmly believe that everyone else should be having fun with it too. So why aren't you watching yet? :D

Low Fat Cake

A lot of you who are dieting or just like low fat eating probably already know this one, but one of the quickest, easiest baking tricks ever? Just buy a box of cake mix (chocolate is preferred in our house, but go with what works for you) and add a can of diet cream soda. General wisdom says Diet Coke... but vanilla-y cream soda makes more sense to me.

I will warn that the cake's soft texture will make it hard to ice (little hunks will want to break off and mix in with your icing), but it's delicious and moist and yummy. Put some ice cream on it and make with the eating.

I Feel Pretty...

I have amazing friends - and amazingly TALENTED friends, even better. Today I modeled in a photo shoot for my friend Star aka Raechel aka Jezzele de Fatale. Not only did she take gorgeous pictures, she also did my super pretty hair AND made the pretty flowered clip I'm wearing in some shots.

If you think that the shots she took are as beautiful as I think they are (what? I'm not usually vain, but I look hot in these!), please head to her Facebook page and fan her!
